Mr David Mutabanura - Executive Director
Mr David Mutabanura is the Executive Director of Cavendish University Uganda in which role he leads and directs the operational, financial and administrative functions of the university. By partnering closely with the University Vice Chancellor (who is the academic head of the university) he fosters and builds an organization with clear roles, a high performance-driven culture, with accountability and high-levels of integrity. The Executive Director therefore drives the achievement of the University's mission and goals by working in close collaboration with the university’s academic leadership, colleagues and other service providers.
Before joining Cavendish University Uganda in November 2016, Mr Mutabanura’s most recent role was to serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Farmers Creameries Ltd, a multi-million dollar, farmers’ co-operatively-owned greenfield dairy processing plant project where he brought the project to a fundable stage. In this role, he implemented the strategic goals of the project, steered and supervised its commercial, technical and organisational aspects. Prior to that, he was the Managing Director of Nilecom Limited, one of the biggest distributors for MTN Uganda products and services.
Mr Mutabanura has over 16 years’ commercial experience in Oil & Gas, Telecommunications and the Food industry including retail and B2B operations with well-regarded brands such as Shell, MTN, Chr Hansen and Danisco. He has consulted for a number of government and non-governmental institutions in Uganda and lectured (part-time) at two universities in Uganda in the fields of engineering, science and technology.
Mr Mutabanura holds a first-in-class Executive MBA from the ESAMI business School, an MSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds, UK and a BSc in Food Science and Technology from Makerere University. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Reach Out Mbuya Parish HIV/AIDS Initiative, the School Management Committee of St Kizito Primary School, Bugolobi as well as boards of institutions in the hospitality and telecommunications sectors. Previously, he also served on a number of committees in Uganda charged with food industry regulation and development.
Mr Mutabanura is passionate about the causes of Youth Development, Economic Empowerment, Education, Environment, Health, Poverty Alleviation, Science and Technology.
