60 students to be awarded Cavendish University Excellence Scholarships in 2020

In the spirit of fulfilling the mission of offering accessible quality education, Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) awarded Merit, Leadership and Exemplary Performance Scholarship Awards to 21 successful applicants for the 2020 January intake. This was during the Press Conference that was held on Friday 17th January, in the CUU Basement.

“As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, a total of 60 scholarships shall this year be awarded and we will continue to build on that as we respond to the needs, interests and lifestyles of our students in line with our academic model” remarked the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Olive Sabiiti. The scholarships shall cover up to 100% tuition and functional fees and are only available to first-year top Ugandan students who may otherwise have struggled to attain market relevant quality education.

“Scholarship recipients will be required to attend leadership workshops and to play a role in peer-mentoring, peer-tutoring and other intellectually enriching or university promoting work-study initiatives as part of their development. It is also a requirement for them to maintain a CGPA of 3.6.” Dr. Olive expounded.

At the same event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof John F. Mugisha announced that the 09th Graduation ceremony will take place on Friday 27th March, 2020 at Speke Resort Munyonyo and informed that over 1000 students are expected to graduate. The function shall be officiated by the Chancellor, H.E Benjamin Mkapa-the former President of the Republic of Tanzania. He further mentioned that the expected Guest of Honour is the Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda and that the Commencement Lecture will be delivered by Prof Mary Okwakol who is the Executive Director of National Council for Higher Education.

New Programmes for the Academic Year, 2020 were also declared and these include; Master of Science in Project Management, Bachelor of Science in Economics & Statistics and Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering.
