Welcome to Cavendish University Uganda!
It is our pleasure to cordially welcome you to the Cavendish University Uganda Employability Festival (EmpFest) 2022. The Employability Festival seeks to provide a range of insights into what the call for Employability through Enterprise & Job Creation means to students across Uganda. Conscious that the world of work is changing rapidly, addressing these changes in meaningful ways is a topic of immense interest to Cavendish University, and that is why we invite people in the industry to skill our learners. Your session will be on Friday November 4th, 2022 face to face at our main campus in Siyani Building Opposite the American Embassy on the theme: “Employability through Enterprise and Job Creation ”. We acknowledge and thank you for accepting to speak to our students and wish you a fruitful discussion. There is a paradox that surrounds fresh graduate’s entry into the labour market today: their aspirations are, in many instances, mismatched with actual labour market demand. Given the abundant evidence that the responsibility for graduate employability has been transferred from the government to higher education institutions, there is a need for these responsibilities to be shared by all the key stakeholders for it to be effective. Besides, there is a huge gap between employers’ expectation for employability and the government’s employability agenda. Employers are an integral part of the higher education drive for employability since they are integral to fellowships, internships, apprenticeship, and very importantly employment, providing up to 90+ percent of the training in their different workplaces. For high quality workplace training to be achieved, understanding the industry needs and application in the teaching and learning process is paramount. There is a need to understand both the skills, knowledge and attitudes that make learners complete before they are ushered out to the world of work. As such, to be successful in trade, learners should be trained on how to balance opportunities, to observe and be assisted with chances to practise and thus gain confidence.
The main objective of the CUU EmpFest 2022 is to bring together the key stakeholders of graduate employability: higher education institutions, students, government and employers to speak to the learners, and help the learners improve on their employability skills, as well as, to help instructors rethink their approaches to teaching.
