Cavendish University Uganda (CUU) is licensed and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), and was established in 2008.

The student-centric academic model of CUU deploys global best practices in teaching and learning and is aimed at fulfilling the Mission of CUU which is to transform students into responsible, educated, employable and entrepreneurial citizens (REEE).

CUU offers market-relevant and accredited academic programmes which are hosted in its four Faculties of Law, Science & Technology, Business & Management, and Socio–Economic Sciences. There is also a School of Postgraduate Studies & Research.

  1. 1. Dean/Senior Lecturer

    Faculty : Social Economic Science

    Job Overview

    The Dean Provides strategic leadership to the faculty leading both administrative and academic functions supporting the faculty to achieve the educational and research goals in line with the overall goals of the University.


    1. Provide guidance in the overall planning and coordination of the Academic Programmes within the faculty.
    2. Lead the development of new curricula, review of existing curricula and keep updated records of all related activities, monitoring and reporting on adherence of approved programmes.
    3. Develop the faculty budget and annual work plan, and monitor the performance ensuring cost effectiveness and optimal utilization of allocated resources.
    4. Participate in load allocation and the development and monitoring of the implementation of the faculty timetable taking/proposing any remedial actions as necessary
    5. Act as the faculty/school overall liaison person, develop and maintain strategic internal and external linkages, and promote the good reputation of the Faculty/School and University with key stakeholders and external organizations.
    6. Lead and coordinate the effective operation of Faculty Board, Committees and commissions and conduct all senate responsibilities in a timely manner.
    7. Promote excellence in instruction, learning, and scholarly activities contributing to the creation and maintenance of a welcoming, supportive work and learning environment in which staff and students are encouraged and supported to excel
    8. Oversee the planning, recording and evaluation of staff training and development, and research initiatives within the faculty.
    9. Recruit, conduct orientation/induction, supervise, evaluate, and support the retention and building of an empowered, ethical and disciplined academic and administrative team at the faculty/school in liaison with the Human Resource Director.
    10. Spearhead the marketing, enrollment, and retention of students at the faculty/school, assessing, monitoring, and reporting on student numbers, class attendance and progress, and participation in faculty/school student meetings and activities
    11. Provide overall oversight on the management of all faculty/school database, records and archives

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    1. PHD from a recognized University
    2. 8 years working experience with leadership experience of at least 3 years.
    3. Membership to relevant professional body

  2. 2. Head of Department – Journalism

    Faculty : Social Economic Science

    Job Overview

    The Programme Coordinator handles academic leadership of the respective programme in addition to their academic role as a Lecturer within the department. The prime role of the position holder is to lead, manage and develop the department programmes to ensure it achieves the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities.

    The role holder is expected to exercise leadership, demonstrate vision and empower members of their respective teams to deliver on the agreed departmental strategy.

    Main Duties and responsibilities

    1. Actively contribute to and participate in the overall leadership and management of the faculty.
    2. Develop appropriate structures for the management, decision making, consultation and communication with staff and students within the respect department.
    3. Sensitize, monitor and ensure compliance with approved quality assurance standards, policies and procedures in the implementation of departmental programmes and activities.
    4. Promote a conducive teaching, and learning environment within the department.
    5. Participate in the recruitment, retention, development and evaluation of academic staff
    6. Ensure the fulfilment of the University obligations in relation to students, their admission, instruction, progress and examination.
    7. Schedule, monitor and ensure compliance to load allocations, time tables and administrative hours.
    8. Monitor and report on staff and student class attendance.
    9. Promote quality, integrity and ethics of research projects.
    10. Inculcate a work culture that embraces excellence, promotes work ethics, emphasizes mutual respect of self and others and encourages cooperation.
    11. Make effective use of staffing resources and seek opportunities for collaboration beyond the department.
    12. Participate in the development of the faculty/school budget and annual work plan and monitor performance of each departmental level.

    Qualifications and experience

    1. PhD from a recognized university is desirable
    2. Master’s degree
    3. At least 5 (five) years relevant work experience with part of that experience as part of faculty leadership

  3. 3. Journalism Instructor

    Faculty :Socio Economic Science (Department of Journalism)

    Employment Type : Full Time

    Main Duties and responsibilities

    1. Organize practical sessions on radio and television, advertising writing, news anchoring, and film art as scheduled by the department.
    2. Instruct trainees/Students on use of television and radio production equipment, event filming, and graphics editing and matching sound to visuals.
    3. Assist students in Editing broadcast material electronically, using computers, writing news stories, providing lead–ins for reports, interviewing guests and News casting.
    4. Give technical directions to students on filming positions, camera angles, lighting and production requirements.
    5. Direct students on different types of radio and television programs, how they produced and managed.
    6. Produce educational and training films and videotapes that can be used by the learners, faculty or University.
    7. Select sources from which programming will be received, or through which programming will be transmitted.
    8. Report equipment problems, and ensure that repairs are made; make emergency repairs to equipment when necessary and possible.
    9. To oversee and ensure continual improvement of the studio, with a focus on current developments in the industry.


    1. Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Communication Studies
    2. Master’s Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication is desirable
    3. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in multimedia production
