CUU emerged Winners of the National Rounds of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition which was held from 29th – 30th August 2023 at Hotel Africana. This marks the second time that Cavendish has claimed victory in this prestigious competition.
The CUU team, consisting of three talented law students – Nantaba Jade, Kamutono Paul, and Nasijje Gloria showcased their exceptional legal skills and knowledge throughout the competition. Their outstanding performance led them to defeat KIU in the finals, securing their position as the winners of the inter-university competition organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Uganda.
Notably, Gloria Nasijje, a CUU student and an Academic Merit scholar, was recognized as the best oralist in the competition. Her eloquence and expertise in presenting legal arguments set her apart from the other participants.
Seven (7) Universities participated in the competition, out of which four (4) advanced to Semi-final Rounds. These included; Cavendish University, Nkumba University, UCU- Mukono and KIU.
Cavendish University will proudly represent Uganda in the upcoming regional rounds, which will take place in Arusha in November, as a result of their remarkable achievement. This opportunity will allow CUU to showcase their legal prowess on a broader stage and compete against other talented teams from the region.
CUU’s success in the 2023 ICRC- International Humanitarian Law Moot Court Competition not only highlights the university’s commitment to excellence in legal education but also serves as a testament to the dedication and hard work of the students involved. Special acknowledgement goes out to their coach, Adv. Godfrey Ayeranga, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law who worked closely with the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Omolade Olomola, among other staff and previous moot champions.
